About Me
I was raised in Providence, Rhode Island by a mother who worked as a clinical social worker and a father who worked as a pediatrician. I have always been drawn to both the scientific method and the power of deeply understanding people’s individual stories. My graduate studies at The University of Maryland immersed me in the value and process of rigorous science. This ever-evolving scientific evidence is where I begin in my therapy practice, my consultation work, and my educational programs.
But all of my scientific training is worthless unless I can provide a safe, supportive environment where curiosity can grow and change doesn’t seem so intimidating. I am no less susceptible than my clients to the allure of presenting well while suffering silently; our present world certainly rewards it. Yet, the greatest lesson I have learned in my career so far is that the best way for me to help my clients thrive is to make sure they know that I too am a work in progress - as a psychologist, as a parent, and as a person.
